In the news for his shock exit from IPL 2020 citing personal reasons, Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) senior batsman Suresh Raina has opened up for the first time on all the controversy surrounding him. While terming CSK boss N. Srinivasan as a father figure, the 33-year-old dismissed all rumours of a rift over a hotel room as ‘fabricated’.

In an exclusive interview of NDTV, Raina revealed that the decision to come back from the UAE was completely personal, and that he did it for his family. “There was something that needed to be addressed immediately at the home front and CSK is my family too and Mahi bhai is most important to me and this was a tough decision but with the family back home, I had to come back for them,” Raina, who announced his decision to retire from international cricket with MS Dhoni on August 15, added.

On Srinivasan’s ‘prima donna’ comment, the left-hander stated that things were taken out of context and that everything is fine now. “He is like a father figure for me and he's always stood by me and is close to my heart, he treats me like his younger son and am sure a lot is taken out of context. He didn't know the reason earlier and its all settled,” Raina further told NDTV in the interview.

Reacting to stories of rift in CSK, Raina claimed they were the brainchild of those who didn’t want him to succeed. “These are all fabricated stories and anyone who knows me, knows that these are all stories planted by people who don't want me or CSK to succeed,” he stated.

The man with 226 ODIs, 18 Tests and 78 T20Is added that CSK is like family to him, and did not rule out the possibility of making a comeback to the franchise this season itself. “CSK is family for me, its like home. You never know, you might see me in the camp again. First, I have to take care of my responsibilities here and then am ready,” her further added.
