India pace bowler Ishant Sharma, on Monday, became the sixth Indian bowler, and third among pacers, to claim 300 wickets in Test matches. Ishant Sharma achieved the feat by trapping Dan Lawrence lbw for 18 on Day 4 of the Chennai Test against England. With the scalp, he joined Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ravichandran Ashwin on an illustrious list. Ishant is making a comeback having missed the Australia Tests owing to the side strain he picked up during the IPL.
The Indian cricket team is currently in Australia for a long tour Down Under, which will feature three ODIs as many T20Is and four Tests. However, head coach Ravi Shastri conceded that Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma, both recovering from injuries, will need to reach Australia in the next few days.
Days after former West Indies skipper Darren Sammy alleged that he was subjected to racial slurs during his time with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a old tweet of his former teammate Ishant Sharma has emerged in which the latter has referred to Sammy as 'Kalu'.
The BCCI has nominated Rohit Sharma for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the wake of his stellar performances across formats in 2019. Further, the names of Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Deepti Yadav have been shortlisted for the Arjuna Award.
Despite having slept for just four hours in the past two days, Ishant Sharma came out and bowled a brilliant spell to give India an outside chance of making a comeback in the Wellington Test against New Zealand. Ishant dismissed Tom Latham (11), Tom Blundell (30) and Ross Taylor (44). However, a captain’s knock of 89 from Kane Williamson kept the Kiwis ahead in the game as they finished day two on 216 for 5.
