The performance of India’s batsmen in the first ODI against Pakistan at Chennai was shambolic to say the least. Agreed, they had to deal with extremely tough conditions and some exceptionally scything bowling.
Skipper MS Dhoni’s great century went in vain as Pakistan cruised to a 6-wicket win in the opening ODI at Chennai. Played under gloomy conditions, the First ODI started an hour late at 10:00 AM and went on and on until 6:00 PM under the floodlights!
If the two-match T20 series was any indication, the ODIs between India and Pakistan will, in all probability, be decided on the basis of how well India bat and also how good Pakistan are with the ball. It was clear in the last two T20s and even in the series against England that unless India put up a very big score on the board, they are likely to struggle.
India clinched a 11-run win in the Second T20I at Ahmedabad thanks to a powerful batting display. Yuvraj Singh starred in the Indian victory with a dazzling knock of 72 from 36 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes.
While keeping the merits of inviting Pakistan for a short tour aside, I think Christmas Day at Bangalore produced an interesting cricketing contest. Both India and Pakistan keep on producing thrilling games against each other probably because the two teams have their shares of problems and strengths to come up with see saw kind of battles.
