The powers held by the President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) are going to be cut down soon. The ICC Board in Dubai has decided to split the President’s role by creating a new Chairman post which will come into effect from 2014. According to an ICC Media release - “The recommendation creates a new system whereby the Presidency would be an Ambassadorial role appointed on a one-year rotational basis, while a Chairman would lead the Board.” The latest decision by the ICC was taken during its meetings in Dubai on 31st of January and yesterday.

The latest ICC move means that every member nation will have the opportunity to send a President for the ICC on a rotational basis. The term for the ICC President will be only one year and that person will only have an ambassadorial role. According to Haroon Lorgat, the ICC Chief Executive - the new post of Chairman will be the real head of the sporting body and will lead the Board. Therefore the best man possible for the job will be selected by a committee.
