South Africa have rested their fast bowling great Dale Steyn for the upcoming ODI and T20I Series in Sri Lanka. Steyn has been rested as the Proteas have a crowded Test season ahead as per Chief Selector and former South Africa opener Andrew Hudson. Former Skipper Graeme Smith hasn’t been considered as he is still in a rehabilitation stage following an ankle surgery.

AB de Villiers will lead the ODI team while Faf du Plessis has been given the honours of skippering the T20I team. Meanwhile fast bowler Morne Morkel comes back in the South African team after an injury which he sustained during the Champions Trophy. Titans’ David Wiese is the only uncapped player who has been named in the T20 Squad. The 28-year-old Wiese is an all rounder who bowls medium pace with quite a lot of first class experience behind him.

South Africa plays 5 ODIs followed up by 3 T20Is. The first ODI is to be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on the 20th of this month.
