In a bold move, England Selectors have snubbed their star batsman Kevin Pietersen in the 15-man squad for the ICC World T20 2012! Kevin Pietersen has been in the midst of a controversy since the last few months ever since he had announced retirement from ODI and T20I Cricket but only to take a U-turn. The ECB has been ignoring KP from national selection on disciplinary grounds with a lot based on his off-field actions. England’s decision is extremely bold as Pietersen was the Man of the Tournament in the last edition of the ICC World T20 which was held in the Caribbean in 2010.

The England Squad for the ICC World Twenty20 2012 is going to be led by all-rounder Stuart Broad. England are the defending ICC World T20 champions and a couple of players who were part of the victorious campaign in 2010 – all-rounder Luke Wright and opener Michael Lumb have been recalled. A total of eight players who were part of the England team in the ICC World T20 2010 have been retained.

As per the ECB website, National selector Geoff Miller has been quoted to have said: "We are very much looking forward to beginning the defence of our World T20 title next month. We know that it will take exceptional cricket to retain the trophy and that begins with the first match against Afghanistan.

“This is a very balanced squad combining experienced players with some exciting young talent who have done well at both international and domestic level this season and who are all very excited by the challenges ahead in Sri Lanka."

The ECB has announced that this would be the same squad that will play against South Africa in a 3-T20I Series. England are placed in Group A of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 along with minnows Afghanistan and former T20 World Champions India. England’s opening match of the tournament is on September 21st against Afghanistan at Colombo.

England Squad for ICC World Twenty20 2012: Stuart Broad (Captain), Jonny Bairstow, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Craig Kieswetter (Wicket Keeper), Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Graeme Swann and Luke Wright
