Match Highlights of Australia Vs India, ODI 7 at the Gabba, Brisbane, Commonwealth Bank Series 2012

Australia have hammered India by a massive margin of 110 runs in the 7th match of the Tri-Series at the Gabba in Brisbane. Ben Hilfenhaus in his comeback game picked up five wickets while Brett Lee took three wickets to trigger a batting collapse from the visitors who were chasing a stiff target of 290 from 50 overs. India got bundled out for just 178 in 43.3 overs. Australia also picked up a bonus point to lead the Tri-Series. (Also read : Australia give a stiff target of 289 for India in the Gabba ODI)

The visitors lost their first wicket in just the 2nd over when an in-form Gautam Gambhir (5) looking to tuck Brett Lee on the backfoot was forced to get caught behind by a bouncy away going delivery. In what was a big blow to India, Sachin Tendulkar (3) let them down in yet another run chase when he tamely upper cut the rising delivery into the hands of thirdman. By the 6th over, India was 16 for 3 when Rohit Sharma got caught behind attempting a forcing drive to a rising delivery from Brett Lee.

Ben Hilfenhaus took five wicketsThere was more trouble in store for India when Virat Kohli (12) got caught low at slip by David Hussey when he pushed hard at a Ben Hilfenhaus outswinger with the score reduced to 36 for 4. A tiny partnership started to grow between Suresh Raina and Skipper MS Dhoni but it was broken in the 23rd over leaving India at 82 for 5. Suresh Raina (28 from 41 balls with a four and a six) threw it away when he edged a flamboyant square drive off Daniel Christian to the Keeper.

India lost its sixth wicket in the 31st over with just 114 on the board when Ravindra Jadeja (18) sliced his big hit towards deep backward point where he was caught by the forward diving Forrest. Australia wrapped up the Indian innings in the next 12 overs with the only resistance coming from Skipper MS Dhoni (56 from 84 balls with 2 fours and a six) and from Irfan Pathan (19 from 27 balls with a four and a six). Both Dhoni and Pathan could only provide some entertainment besides reducing the margin of defeat.

Ben Hilfenhaus picked up a maiden five-wicket haul for the Aussies in his ODI comeback to get the Man of the Match award. He gave just the 33 runs in 10 overs whilst Brett Lee did well for his 3 for 49. Spinner Xavier Doherty got super figures of 10-0-29-0.
