The 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to be held from September 19 to November 8, as per a report in news agency PTI. The T20 League will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) owing to the prevailing COVID-19 situation in India.

There has been no official confirmation from the BCCI yet. The IPL Governing Council meeting is scheduled to take place later this week, during which the final dates will be discussed.

According to earlier reports, the tournament was likely to start on September 26. The event though is likely to get underway a week earlier as India have to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine period before the series against Australia.

India will play four Test matches in Australia starting December 3. As expected, the BCCI is set to utilise the window cleared due to ICC postponing the T20 World Cup that was scheduled to be held in Australia. The International Cricket Council has put on hold the mega event due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Sources told PTI that BCCI has already informed the eight IPL franchises about the possible schedule. "IPL in all likelihood will start on September 19 (Saturday) and the final will be held on November 8 (Sunday).

"It is a 51-day window which will suit the franchises as well as the broadcasters and other stakeholders," a senior BCCI official was quoted as telling PTI.

As per the tentative schedule, 60 games will be played across 51 days. The report further stated that the teams will get around a month to prepare for the IPL.

"The Indian team will have a mandatory quarantine of 14 days as per Australian government rules. A delay would have sent the plans haywire.

"The best part is that 51 days is not at all a curtailed period and there will be much less doubleheaders. We could stick to original five doubleheaders in seven-week window," the BCCI official told PTI.
