The 2019 Cricket World Cup has not disappointed as cricket fans around the world have been treated with some superb cricket throughout the group stages, which had just about everything.

Although many teams will be dissatisfied that their tournament ended at this stage, on reflection they will know they have been part of a special competition.

Narrowing it down to five players who have really shone for their respective countries was not easy but here are five men who can make a case for having an outstanding tournament

Mohammad Amir

Pakistan just missed out on qualification into the semi-final of the World Cup on run-rate. They were level on points with New Zealand but had an inferior run-rate through their nine games. Mohammad Amir has had a controversial start to his career due to the spot fixing scandal, however, he has returned to become one of the most dangerous bowlers in one-day cricket - as he proved in this tournament. The left-arm seamer is sure to be a key part of his country’s side for the upcoming major tournaments.

Jasprit Bumrah

Although a lot of the accolades in this great India team will go to players with the bat, Jasprit Bumrah’s continuation with the ball should not be forgotten. The Indian is rated as the number one ODI bowler with the ICC and it was clear to see why during this tournament. Bumrah so often made the breakthrough for his side when they needed it the most and was their biggest weapon when it came to restricting teams and taking wickets.

David Warner

David Warner was desperate to have a positive impact on this tournament for his country and he can look back upon it and say he did exactly that. Although he did not get the best of receptions from the crowds in England, he did all his talking with the bat. Warner is an excellent opening batsman in all forms of the game and Australian fans will be hoping he continues his form into the Ashes where the visitors are 7/4 in the cricket betting to win the series.

Shakib Al Hasan

All-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan almost single-handily carried Bangladesh to the semi-final of the World Cup, something which looked only remotely possible when the competition began. Al Hasan was magical with the bat, scoring consistently heavily throughout, while his bowling figures weren't too bad either. The Bangladeshi made a case to suggest he would be a starter in any team in the world at the moment.

Rohit Sharma

India’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma made history against Sri Lanka by becoming the first batsman to hit five centuries at a World Cup. The opener has been in fantastic form, helping his side get off to a flying start in their matches. No player is in the better shape with the bat at the moment than the Indian.

On reflection, it is has been one of the best World Cups in the history of the tournament and hopefully the next edition in 2023 in India as just as much excitement.
