Rahul Tewatia, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have earned their maiden international call-ups. The trio is part of the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. Kishan’s selection came on the day he hammered 173 off 94 balls, with 11 sixes, for Jharkhand against Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Suryakumar, who has been consistently performing for Mumbai in domestic cricket as well as Mumbai Indians in the IPL has got his much-deserved break. As for Tewatia, he rose to fame by hammering Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over during an IPL match for Rajasthan Royals against Kings XI Punjab last year. He is also a decent spinner. Apart from his exploits on Saturday, Kishan also played a crucial role in Mumbai Indians’ title triumph in IPL 2020, smashing 516 runs at a strike rate of 145.76.

Tamil Nadu spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who had to pull out of the T20 squad for Australia last year due to a shoulder injury, has also been named. Also making an expected comeback is Rishabh Pant, following his exploits in the Test matches.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who last played for India in December 2019, has been named while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested. Ravindra Jadeja remains unfit and doesn’t find a place. Interestingly, Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal, who were part of the T20I team in Australia, have not been chosen while Sanju Samson has been dropped after his poor showing Down Under. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav also doesn’t find a place in the team.

The five T20I games will be played in Ahmedabad on March 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.

India’s squad for England T20Is: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), K.L. Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Yuzvendra Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, T.
