India overpowered New Zealand in all departments in Pune on Wednesday, and the visiting skipper Kane Williamson admitted his team needed to do much better in the final match on Sunday.

After Kiwis shocked India at Mumbai, the hosts came back strongly in Pune, and how head to the decider at Kanpur.

"We certainly came here with high hopes and we put a much better performance together in Mumbai, not so much today. India are very good opposition and we do need to play much better in Kanpur,” he said.

Williamson however did not believe that batting first was a mistake. "Whatever you do when you win or lose the toss you want to do well. We weren't quite good enough at the top but credit to the way India bowled," he said.

"Their opening spell was very good, it put us under a lot of pressure and hit the mark with their lengths on that surface,” Williamson explained.
