England defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the opening Test at Lord's with 21-year-old fast bowler Steven Finn finishing with a rich match haul of 9 for 187. After posting a massive first innings total of 505 in their first innings, England could find enough time to break through a decent resistance from Bangladesh to end up chasing a moderate target of 160. Bangladesh was promising in its first innings at the start but folded to 283 with James Anderson and Steven Finn taking four wickets each. The visitors were forced to follow on and they did a commendable job to come up with 382 in 110.2 overs.

In the second essay, the Bangladeshi top order fired with opener Tamim Iqbal scoring 103 in just 100 balls to follow up his first innings 55. Imrul Kayes (75) and Junaid Siddique (74) also provided solid fightback until Steven Finn got his act right with a five-wicket haul. England chased the 160-run target in just 35.1 overs with Skipper Andrew Strauss scoring a 88-ball 82. Finn was named as the Man of the Match for his bowling efforts.
