The second day's started with the Proteas on 90 for 1. Sri Lanka had come back in the game slightly when they had the hosts at 136 for 4 but a well struck 99 from no.6 AB de Villiers spoilt their plans. AB de Villiers got his 99 in just 135 balls with a dozen boundaries. Towards the end of play, there was a fighting partnership for the last wicket which has put up 49 runs so far! Wicket Keeper Mark Boucher with 49* (from 85 balls with 6 fours) is in that final wicket partnership with leg spinner ImranTahir who is on a run-a-ball 24.
For the visitors, swing bowler ThisaraPerera picked up three wickets, but at the same time was taken for 114 runs in his 24 overs. His new ball partner - left armerChanakaWelegedera picked up a couple of wickets. South Africa with their 209 run-lead are sitting pretty to win the Test match with three full days to go. Sri Lanka will have to bat long in their second innings if they have to atleast draw the Test match. In their first innings, the visitors lasted only 47.4 overs scoring a paltry 180 on the first day's play.
