Riding on Skipper Brad Haddin's 76 (from 59 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes), hosts Sydney Sixers defeated Brisbane Heat by 7 wickets in the opening game of the Big Bash League. Batting first after winning the toss at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Brisbane Heat were restricted to 139 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. There was not a single half century from any of the Brisbane batsmen. For the hosts, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Stuart MacGill picked up two wickets each.

The run chase for Sydney was pretty easy thanks to opener Haddin's 76 and the match was won comfortably with eight balls to spare. Brad Haddin got the Man of the Match for his efforts.
