Paul Valthaty and Dinesh Karthik fell in quick succession as Kings XI Punjab were rocked early in their clash against the Sahara Pune Warriors in the fifth match of IPL-4 at Mumbai on Sunday.

Kings XI Punjab got back to back wickets of Mithun Manhas and Jesse Ryder as Sahara Pune Warriors chased 113 for victory against Kings XI Punjab in the fifth match of IPL-4 at Mumbai on Sunday.

Earlier, Ryder and Minhas took charge of proceedings after Graeme Smith fell to Praveen Kumar.

Debutant Pune Warriors started their stint in the Indian Premier League on an impressive note by restricting Kings XI to a modest 112 for eight.

A double strike each by Pune's opening bowlers -- Alfonso Thomas and Shrikant Wagh Kings XI staggering at nine for four within the first four overs after captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket offering good bounce.

The top four batsmen, including former Australian great Gilchrist, were packed off cheaply by South African Thomas and Wagh and only a late charge by another South African, Ryan McLaren who made a half century, propelled Punjab past the century mark.

Ryan McLaren scored 51 of 43 balls in an otherwise woeful batting display by Kings XI Punjab in their clash against Sahara Pune Warriors in the fifth match of IPL-4 at Mumbai on Sunday.

Earlier, Abhishek Nayar was dismissed by Jesse Ryder after Sunny Singh was run out as Kings XI Punjab lost their way against the Sahara Pune Warriors.

While the Sahara Pune Warriors will be making their debut in the Indian Premier league, Kings XI Punjab will be desperate to erase memories of a disastrous IPL-3 season where they won just four of their 14 fixtures to finish bottom of the table.
