The unpredictable Yuvraj Singh shone with both bat and ball as India overcame a spirited challenge from Ireland to get over the line by five wickets in a World Cup Group B tie at Bangalore on Sunday.

With the Irish going great guns at the halfway stage of their innings, Yuvraj struck crucial blows to end up with career best figures of 5/31 and limit the opposition to 207 in 47.5 overs.

Yuvraj's victims included William Porterfield who fell for a well made 75 and Ireland's hero from their game against England, Kevin O'Brien who only managed 9 on this occasion.

The charismatic middle order batsman came in to bat at the fall of Sachin Tendulkar's wicket in the 21st over as the Irish looked to claw their way back into the match.

He went on to score an unbeaten 50 and was involved in crucial partnerships with Virat Kohli, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan to steer India to a much needed victory.
