S Badrinath, Tamil Nadu’s prolific run scorer has been added to the India Squad as a replacement of VVS Laxman, who had announced his retirement from International Cricket with immediate effect. Badrinath joined the Indian team on Sunday night.

The 31-year-old Badrinath has been on the fringes of national selection for the last five years or so. He has already played 2 Tests, 7 ODIs and a lone T20I ever since making his International Debut in 2008. The right-handed Badrinath has also been the Captain of the Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy team and has been an important member of the Chennai Super Kings. Badrinath has also led India

S BadrinathBadrinath’s two Tests have come against South Africa at Nagpur and Kolkata in which he managed to score a knock of 56 while failing in the other two innings that he could bat. In 7 ODIs, Badrinath scored just 79 runs at a poor average of 15.80 and a highest score of 27*. However, he never got a long run in the Indian team because of heavy competition in the middle order.

Subramaniam Badrinath has a tremendous record at the first-class level with a beautiful average of over 60.00 with 28 100s. His career best is 256 which came for Tamil Nadu against Mumbai in 2009. Badrinath will perhaps fight with Suresh Raina in the playing XI considering that Cheteshwar Pujara is more than likely to take the place of Rahul Dravid.
