West Indies demolished a below par Ireland by 70 runs despite putting up a moderate total of 138 on the board. Ireland were dismal in their batting show as they got bundled out for just 68 in 16.4 overs. It was a night to remember for all-rounder Darren Sammy as he followed up his crucial 17-ball 30 with four catches and also three wickets with the ball! Even before he had come onto bowl, Ireland were softened up by the pace, swing and seam from the new ball duo of Kemar Roach (1 for 12 in 4 overs) and Ravi Rampaul (3 for 17 in 3 overs).

The hosts were a touch lucky to get a victory out of this game as a decent shower hit the Providence Stadium in the 3rd over of the Ireland's innings. Fortunately it was a typical passing shower and the match could resume without any overs cut. There was no class at all from the Irish batsmen as most of them hardly got behind the line to Roach and Rampaul. All the five bowlers used by temporary Skipper Dwayne Bravo were amongst the wickets.
